Meet Stuart Maris
ADI Qualified Driving Instructor, Oakham, Rutland
ADI
Qualified July 2024
A Driving Instructor Who Genuinely Cares
Stuart Maris became a fully qualified Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) in July 2024, completing twelve months of intensive training with the AA Driving Instructor Academy. It was a journey that required dedication, patience and a genuine passion for helping others, qualities that now define every lesson he delivers.
Before becoming an instructor, Stuart spent years working in sales and training roles, developing strong communication and coaching skills that translate directly into the driving seat. He knows how to explain complex ideas clearly, adapt to different learning styles, and keep pupils calm under pressure.
The Inspiration Behind It All
Stuart's decision to become a driving instructor was inspired by his daughter, who passed her driving test first time in January 2023. Watching her grow in confidence behind the wheel, and seeing the independence that came with passing, made him realise the profound difference a great instructor can make. He wanted to give that same experience to other learners and their families.
Watching my daughter pass first time was one of the proudest moments of my life. I knew then that helping others reach that milestone was exactly what I wanted to do.
— Stuart Maris, ADI
Teaching Philosophy
Patient, structured, and always pupil-led.
Stuart believes that every learner is different. Some need more time on junctions; others need help managing nerves on test day. His approach is to listen first, then teach, adapting every lesson to the individual rather than following a rigid script. Progress is always measured against the pupil's own goals, not a fixed timetable.
Listen First
Understanding each pupil's concerns, goals and learning style before the lesson even begins.
Build Confidence Gradually
Introducing new skills at the right pace, never rushing, never overwhelming.
Clear, Honest Feedback
Constructive feedback after every manoeuvre so pupils always know what to work on next.
Safe Driving for Life
The goal isn't just to pass a test, it's to create safe, confident drivers who stay safe long after their test day.

Beyond the Driving Seat
When he's not out on the roads of Rutland, Stuart enjoys spending time with his family and staying active. His background in sales and training means he's equally comfortable working with nervous teenagers on their first lesson as he is with mature learners returning to driving after a long break. Whatever your situation, Stuart will put you at ease from the moment you get in the car.
"You have two ears and one mouth, so use them in moderation."
A principle Stuart lives by in every lesson
